The journey

A Serengeti route that gives each day a reason to be there.

A successful family safari is not simply an adult itinerary with children added to the vehicle. This route gives the Serengeti and Ngorongoro enough time while keeping the rhythm generous: private game drives can be shorter when they need to be, camp breaks are built in and the road movements are explained honestly. The result is a journey with space for big wildlife days, quiet meals and the unexpected moments every family remembers.

Before confirming the route, we discuss ages, room configuration, dietary needs, energy levels, interests and the comfort level you want. We then recommend camps and lodges that genuinely support a family stay, rather than presenting a generic list. Your guide makes the wildlife engaging at the right pace, and your family decides how the day unfolds.

Day by day

The complete route.

Suggested stays are names only, so the daily plan remains clear. Live availability and the best matching property are confirmed with you before booking.

Day 1

Arrive in Arusha and settle in before the safari begins.

Meet our team at Kilimanjaro Airport or your Arusha hotel, then transfer to a well-chosen lodge where everyone can reset after travel. This is intentionally a simple day: a comfortable room, a good meal and a calm briefing are far more valuable than adding an unnecessary activity. We review the route, confirm the next morning’s timing and make sure children and adults alike know what to expect from the first game-drive day.

Day 2

Fly or drive into central Serengeti; first wildlife afternoon.

The route into Serengeti is selected around your family’s energy and the wider travel plan. A flight can protect time; a road route can be enjoyable when there is enough space in the itinerary. On arrival, meet your private guide and begin a gentle game-drive transfer to camp. There is no pressure to stay out all day: the first aim is to settle in, see wildlife naturally and enjoy a relaxed dinner together.

Day 3

A flexible full day of wildlife, camp time and family choices.

Start with the first-light wildlife window, then return for breakfast and decide the pace for the rest of the day. Some families prefer a long picnic drive; others want a swim, rest or time in camp before going out again later. Your guide can adapt the route around the animals and the attention span of the group, explaining tracks, behaviour and habitats in a way that keeps the day absorbing rather than exhausting.

Day 4

Another Serengeti day, with room to follow what interests your family.

Use the day to explore a different area and give the family more ownership of the safari. Look for a particular animal, spend time at a waterhole, work the kopjes for lion and hyrax, or keep the focus on the whole landscape. Private guiding means you can stay with a sighting if everyone is fascinated, or return to camp early without feeling that you have missed a group schedule. Dinner is another chance to share the day’s stories.

Day 5

Serengeti to Ngorongoro highlands with wildlife stops along the way.

After breakfast, travel towards the Ngorongoro highlands. This movement is planned as a safari drive rather than a dash across the map, with wildlife stops, a picnic lunch and a realistic arrival at the lodge. The cooler highland setting offers a clear contrast to the plains and gives the family time to enjoy a quieter evening before the crater day.

Day 6

Early crater descent, then return to Arusha or Kilimanjaro Airport.

Descend into Ngorongoro Crater early for a focused private wildlife day. The guide balances the drive with breaks, a picnic and the right amount of time in each habitat so the experience remains engaging. In the afternoon, ascend and continue to Arusha or Kilimanjaro Airport for your onward flight. We plan the timing around the actual flight schedule; when it is not comfortable, an extra night is always the better choice.

Before you decide

Useful answers, stated clearly.

Is this a fixed departure or a private itinerary?

This is a private itinerary and a detailed starting point. We shape it around your dates, group, preferred pace and the accommodation level you want.

Are the listed prices the total cost of the safari?

No. They are planning ranges per person, per day, as requested. The final proposal is based on your exact travel period, party size, camp choice and any internal flights or special experiences.

Can we change the accommodation level during the journey?

Yes. A thoughtful journey can combine levels of stay. We explain the effect of each choice and build a balanced route without pushing one standard across every night.

Will we see the migration?

The Serengeti is rewarding throughout the year, and we position the route around likely seasonal movement where relevant. Wildlife movement is natural and cannot be guaranteed, so we explain the opportunity honestly and give the journey value beyond one sighting.
