The journey

A Serengeti route that gives each day a reason to be there.

The southern Serengeti can be extraordinary when the grasses are green and the migration is using the wider Ndutu plains. This itinerary gives that landscape four proper nights, rather than adding it as a short detour to a central Serengeti route. It is created for guests who value open country, a more intimate tented-camp rhythm and the chance to watch a season unfold at its own pace.

Calving and migration movements are driven by conditions, not an exact calendar. We therefore choose the most appropriate camp area for your dates, explain what can and cannot be anticipated, and keep the guide’s plan flexible. With a private vehicle, you can spend more time where the wildlife is rewarding, return to camp when you prefer and let the rhythm of the day feel personal.

Day by day

The complete route.

Suggested stays are names only, so the daily plan remains clear. Live availability and the best matching property are confirmed with you before booking.

Day 1

Arusha through Ngorongoro Conservation Area to the southern plains.

Leave Arusha after breakfast and travel through the highlands towards the southern Serengeti and wider Ndutu area. The route crosses beautiful changing landscapes, so it is planned with a picnic lunch, comfort stops and game viewing as the plains open out. Reach camp with enough time to settle in, meet the team and take a short late-afternoon drive if light and conditions allow. Dinner is under the stars, with the soundscape of the plains close by.

Day 2

Full private day among the short-grass plains.

Set out early, when the air is cool and the first light gives the plains a soft, expansive quality. Your guide will read the day: fresh tracks, herd movement and the changing position of wildlife determine the route. In the right season, the area can be alive with new life and predator activity; on other days, the reward is simply the scale of the grassland and the chance to observe without pressure. Return to camp for a break or carry a picnic according to your preference.

Day 3

A second southern day, paced around the conditions.

This is deliberately another full day in the south. The migration does not stand still, and a location that is quiet one morning can be full of activity later. Your guide can work the open plains, woodland edges, lakes or a promising cluster of wildlife without the need to rush back to a transfer. Take time for photography, a long sighting or a late breakfast in camp; the value of a private safari is that you are not locked into a shared vehicle timetable.

Day 4

Southern Serengeti game viewing with a relaxed camp day.

Use your final full day to enjoy the area with a lighter rhythm. Start early if you want the best wildlife window, then return for lunch and a longer camp pause before an afternoon drive. Or keep a picnic on board and travel further when wildlife conditions make it worthwhile. This day gives the itinerary breathing room and creates a much more complete experience than a hurried chase across the plains.

Day 5

Morning drive, then onward to Arusha or the next safari chapter.

Take a final early drive as you leave the southern plains. Your onward transfer or flight is selected around the route and current operating plan; we will confirm it with the camp and airline before departure. Continue to Arusha, Ngorongoro, a central Serengeti stay or a beach extension depending on the wider journey. The final movement is planned realistically, protecting your comfort and your onward connection.

Before you decide

Useful answers, stated clearly.

Is this a fixed departure or a private itinerary?

This is a private itinerary and a detailed starting point. We shape it around your dates, group, preferred pace and the accommodation level you want.

Are the listed prices the total cost of the safari?

No. They are planning ranges per person, per day, as requested. The final proposal is based on your exact travel period, party size, camp choice and any internal flights or special experiences.

Can we change the accommodation level during the journey?

Yes. A thoughtful journey can combine levels of stay. We explain the effect of each choice and build a balanced route without pushing one standard across every night.

Will we see the migration?

The Serengeti is rewarding throughout the year, and we position the route around likely seasonal movement where relevant. Wildlife movement is natural and cannot be guaranteed, so we explain the opportunity honestly and give the journey value beyond one sighting.
